BUCKLERS LEAD -- OTHERS FOLLOW
This car is currently
being restored by Kevin Davie in Victoria, Australia
Jon Leighton discovered the existence of the Buckler
register some years ago at a traction engine rally where
the register had a stand. He spoke to somebody at the
stand about his square tube Buckler and was told that
there was no possibility of this car being a real
Buckler as Bucklers never made a chassis using square
tube. Jon was a good friend of Derek's and as he had
shipped it direct from the factory to Australia was a
little disappointed by the response from the register.
Some years later a photograph of this car at the factory
was discovered.
"Can you tell me if the square tubed DD2 has a Mistral
shell which was originally made with dark green gel coat
(BRG)? If so, it will be the one I rode in with Granddad
at 115 mph (down Amersham Road).
It had a Coventry Climax engine, was fully completed at
the works apart from details of body finishing.
They were building a wooded crate for it to be exported
to Australia. That is all that I remember." M.Buckler
